PSALTER: THEMES FOR PEACE
An evocative and gripping journey through the theme of peace in the book of Psalms, Tim Boniface's PSALTER: THEMES FOR PEACE moves through hope, rest, protest, lament, joy and a call to action, and offers a fresh way of encountering familiar ancient texts through the composition and improvisation of this superb group. Psalter, which was composed specially for at St Alban’s Cathedral in 2024, was recorded at Girton College in Cambridge and released on Audio-B in 2025. Alongside Tim on saxophones, it features an all star rhythm section of James Pearson (piano), Malcolm Creese (bass), Jon Ormston (drums). Buy 'Psalter' here.

"...instant accessibility. Enhanced by the cool sounds and angular lines from both of the Chaplain's saxes even the faster movements are relaxing... James Pearson proves his worth with piano solos that make the moment live. Pianistic perfection. Creese and Ormston keep the pace even when soloing. A tastier rhythm section you couldn't find anywhere on the road from Frith St. to Girton even if you'd taken the long way round via NYC. Beautiful."

"Boniface's saxophone is charged and expressive... The musicians' improvisations, combined with the strength of the compositions, result in an expressive suite, proving that profound inspiration and engaging entertainment can co-exist... a terrific, thought provoking jazz album."

"Beautifully played and conceived. The Eight Words is the work of a fine composer-musician—who also happens to be ordained. And this is the uniqueness here. The work is ambitious, thoughtful and accessible, yes. And it displays a vintage jazz sensibility, yes. But it is also deeply devotional, too, which makes the music all the more disarming and powerful."
Paul Northup, Creative Director, Greenbelt
"Tim's blues chops are in fine form throughout... an inventive session of hard bop by a quartet who play throughout with invention and commitment."

"Tuneful, sincere and exciting... and it swings. Tim Boniface's quartet play beautifully on his compositions. Some solos will blow you away: Tim's impassioned tenor and alto; Phil Merriman's piano - is there anything he can't do? - as well as the smart interlocking of the rhythm section. The bonus track with Polly Gibbons is a jam session so exciting that you never want it to end. ...Fine music."
Brian Case, The Jazz Journal
"I have had such a blast listening to 'The Infant'....full of energy when required, gorgeously intimate at other points and always bursting with invention and passion.... Great solos from Tim and all the band. Beautiful and uplifting."
